Herrvik to Visby
Distance: 52 km / Duration: 00h50min
We have an early breakfast and check out from the hotel. It's time to drive south towards Nynäshamn, and we will take the ferry to Visby on Gotland, also known as the island of silver treasures. Nowhere else in the world have so many silver treasures from the Viking Age been found in the ground as on Gotland. The island itself is filled with both cultural and natural treasures. We will experience a nature that is both raw and graceful, while diving into history and sensing the everyday life and culture that defines the island of the "gutes."
After arriving in Visby, Gotland's main city, we head straight to Lilla Bjers Kro for lunch (not included). Lilla Bjers is a green, organic oasis in Västerhejde on Gotland, 7 km south of Visby. The farm is a place steeped in history and filled with flavorful experiences from the land.
We drive via Västergarn to Grötlingbo Church, where the Danish artist Asger Jorn is buried. Although he would be nearly 110 years old today, he can still make people work from his grave, as researchers from all over the world have been finding new ways to interpret his art. Asger Jorn requested to be buried in the churchyard, as the church is adorned with some of the 12th-century reliefs that fascinated him most. Once we reach Herrvik, we sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee at Hamnkrogen (not included), with the sea as our closest neighbour.
Back in Visby, we drive to our hotel and check in before heading out on a walking tour of the old Hanseatic town. No matter where we look, it feels as if we are always just a stone’s throw from the sea on this magical island. The evening is at your own leisure.

DAY 5
Fårö
We take the ferry to Fårö, an island of 113 km² featuring cultivated landscapes, colorful meadows, spectacular rock formations (rauks), and endless stone beaches. In the southeastern part of the island, the unique nature and diverse birdlife guarantee a memorable hike. From Ryssnäs, near Ingmar Bergman’s private cinema, we follow smaller coastal roads northward. Along the way, we make several stops at unique rock formations and pass by Bergman’s house at the water’s edge.
We continue to Fårö Church and Bergman’s grave. From here, it’s a short distance to the picturesque Fårö Gård, one of the island’s old school buildings, now home to a lovely restaurant where we have lunch (not included).
Next, we head to the coast at Gåsemora, where we walk along the shoreline towards our final destination. The bus then takes us to the dramatic rauk coast of Digerhuvud on Fårö’s western side. We walk down to Langhammars, Gotland’s largest rauk field, where we experience the towering limestone pillars up close. A short drive takes us to the small fishing village of Helgumannen, located in the Digerhuvud Nature Reserve, where we can feel the wind and freedom of the vast coastline.
Now, we return to the ferry and head back to Visby, full of impressions from the day. The evening is at your own leisure.

Departure: 16:50-20:00 ferry
Oskarshamn – Kalmar

Make time to visit some of the many historical ruins, such as Saint Mary's Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church, which bear witness to Visby’s rich past as an important Hanseatic city.
Visby is also famous for its cobblestone streets and colourful, rose-covered houses. Explore the small shops and galleries selling local handicrafts or relax at a cozy café with a cup of coffee and a freshly baked cinnamon bun.

After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, we embark on a city tour.
Our walk begins at Kalmar Castle, which has played a crucial role in Sweden’s history since its construction began in the late 12th century. We continue past the cathedral, the town hall, and the three neighboring houses from the 17th century, commonly known as "Tripp, Trapp, Trull.”
Next, we drive towards Kosta, a small town nestled in the forests of Småland and the heart of Sweden’s Kingdom of Glass. Founded in 1742, Kosta has been renowned for centuries for its world-famous glassworks, where traditional craftsmanship meets modern design. With the heat of the furnace at its core, skilled glassblowers create unique works of art that reflect both the beauty of nature and human creativity. Kosta is more than just a town – it is a living story of artistry and passion.
Here, we enjoy lunch and have time to visit Kosta Outlet or Kosta Art Gallery. The gallery is a haven for art lovers, where glass meets creativity. It showcases unique works from some of Sweden’s most renowned glass artists, blending traditional techniques with contemporary expressions. The outlet is a shopping paradise for those who appreciate quality and design at great prices. Here, you will find everything from exclusive glassware by Kosta Boda and Orrefors to fashion, home decor, and outdoor equipment.
We then approach the end of our Swedish adventure.
